Ancient and modern technology
Brass casting is an ancient craft technique combining tradition and creativity, allowing it to transform raw and inert material into unique ‘living’ works. The process begins with the model’s creation, using traditional methods such as lost wax or carved wood or high-tech methods such as drawing on a graphic tablet with subsequent 3D printing of the model. Whether it is traditional or High-Tech, all the techniques for prototyping and processing following steps – such as chiselling and natural or burnished finishing – allow brass modelling to create rich-in-detail shapes, making them become almost alive and organic.
The lost wax technique, in particular, is a very ancient technique dating back to 6000 years ago and is still widely used in metalworking; it concerns the creation of a wax model then covered with refractory material. When the wax is melted and poured away, it forms a “negative” mould which to pour the molten metal into. Wood carving is also a used method, although it presupposes a ‘collateral’ mastery of a master craftsman and very different times and methods.
In any case, the fusion moment is magic: the brass, brought to high temperatures, is transformed into a fluid and malleable liquid, ready to be shaped. That warm and vital material adapts to the mould, taking on irregular shapes and imperfect surfaces often inspired by the imperfect uniqueness of nature. Organic twisty shapes and textures, which recall natural elements obtained using this process, and characterized by an imperfection that gives authenticity and personality to each piece. One of the peculiarities of this procedure is the deformation of the material. During the cooling process, the brass comes to life with irregular finishes and surfaces that tell the story of the casting itself. Irregularities are not defects but distinctive features that make each creation unique.
In addition to the perfection of detail given by the casting, the material of brass comes to life thanks to finishes such as burnished and natural brass, which – deliberately imperfect – make a unique deepness to the artefacts. The burnished finish enhances the material, accentuating its character and rustic elegance in a warm and enveloping shade with shades ranging from caramel to dark brown, reminiscent of wet earth, fallen leaves and all the shades of autumn. The natural finish of brass – without coatings – expresses all the authentic beauty of this metal. Over time, brass evolves, developing a unique patina that tells about the object’s story and the environment in which it is. Without protective coatings, brass ‘breathes’, reacting with air and humidity, giving warm shades full of character.
This highly appreciated natural finish has an organic and lived-in charm that transforms each piece into something unrepeatable and deeply linked to time. Each piece tells a different story because no one is ever identical to the other. The dark and variable shades, the result of a non-repeatable artisan process, make each piece as authentic as the hands of the craftsman who performs the various processes. This materiality, obtained through blending and following manual steps, gives personality and life to the furnishings, making them vibrate with unique and imperfect beauty.
The olive tree symbolizes strength and resistance, a thousand-year-old plant that embodies the history and beauty of Mediterranean nature. Its trunks, hollowed out by time and shaped by the sun, tell ancient stories: gnarled, twisted with deep folds that seem to be drawn by the wind. Like each olive tree is unique, a natural sculpture forged by the elements conveys a feeling of eternity. Even the artefacts created by Bronzetto through fusions are symbols of durability and authenticity.
Its silvery leaves sway in the sunlight, while its fruits, the olives, are small treasures of the earth. Rich in precious oil, they are the heart of the agricultural tradition of entire civilizations, a symbol of abundance and prosperity. The olive tree embodies the balance between strength and delicacy, between the passage of time and the cyclical rebirth of its fruits, making it one of the most fascinating and respected plants in the natural landscape.
