Olbia Terranova Railway Station

Lighting project by Cariboni Group

White, with a long red canopy, in the shape of a ship, the new Olbia train station (Italy) was handed over to the city, which had been waiting for a modern, state-of-the-art facility for years. Called Olbia Terranova, it represents the first phase of a larger project to upgrade the city’s transport hub, particularly for the Olbia-Cagliari/Sassari connections affected by the new stop, which will ensure increased levels of accessibility to the city’s rail service. Improve the accessibility and the usability of train stations, at the same time increasing functionality, decorum and safety. With these aims Rete Ferroviaria Italiana has launched the Easy Station project for the improvement of the station physical spaces and public information.

The lighting project has involved the new roadway adjacent to the station, the accesses and the platforms alongside the tracks. The access roads to the train station and the parking areas have been illuminated with LIT POLES by Cariboni Group in a double configuration with high-performance asymmetrical street optics, which made it possible to install the lighting fixtures at significant distance from each other. The same LIT POLES have been used also to illuminate the open platforms flanking the tracks, providing a continuous and uniform lighting.

Instead, for the lighting of the station entrances and covered platforms has been used the TRAIL SOLID LINE system, specifically designed for mobility sites. Ease of installation is combined with a resistant stainless-steel structure, a guarantee of long life, uniform lighting and optimal visual comfort, favoured by the anti-glare screen finish and the screen made of tempered glass for improved light transmission.

The TRAIL SOLID LINE system has fully ensured the achievement of the design objective, which required uniform light distribution on both vertical and horizontal surfaces: an effect favoured by the excellent optical performance and the extremely compact dimensions of the module heads, which minimise light interruption at the junction points. The steel structure ensures greater durability and the electrical connection is quick and easy, thanks to plug-socket connectors.
