The nature of the challenge and the flair for the “piece” stimulated the imagination and created the emotion from which the idea of buying and renovating this apartment was born. Located in a neoclassical villa of the 700s, owned by the Brivio Counts, with a beautiful park of centuries-old trees that made the owner instantly fall in love. It was a place where she was willing to live for a long time…
Over two hundred and fifty square meters, cut on four levels plus a mezzanine, in which the minimalism of materials, upholstery, boiserie, design furnishings and domestic intimacy blend in harmonious coherence, enhancing each other in a refined context. A two-year passionate commitment by MMA Projects dedicated to this house, between design and construction in a fascinating process. An elegant and lively style in the choices has given life to the various areas of the house. An example of this is the option of the kitchen floor in oak parquet laid in a Hungarian herringbone pattern in three different colours with brass inserts contrasting with the textured HD Surface cement used throughout the rest of the house but with different tones depending on the living or sleeping areas, the latter material much loved and used in various other projects of the studio.
The staircase – located in the centre of the house – sets the tone for the floor of the different levels. Going up to the floors, the finish colour changes depending on whether you are in the living room in light grey, in the master sleeping area in total white or on the attic floor in dark grey. The challenge in this project has been to create space using every useful centimetre. Lowering the entire floor on the first floor by one metre, it has been possible to obtain an attic. The kitchen – originally located on the ground floor – has been positioned on the mezzanine, allowing the enlargement of the living room and the building of a guest bathroom on the same floor.
In the living room of vigorous impact is the boiserie that culminates with a French frieze, chosen for the five-meter-high wall surrounded by fabric scarves that descend from the high ceiling connecting the mezzanine – where the kitchen is – to the living room. The texture and nuances of the fabric recall the Hungarian herringbone laying of parquet. Looking out from the mezzanine is the striking and custom-made Verpan suspension chandelier that gives light to the living room and the kitchen area.
