The iconic portable and rechargeable lamp by Zafferano, in “Pro Mini” version, white and golden leaf colour, illuminates the outdoor area of one of the most historic and prestigious symbols of the Venetian catering
In one of the most beautiful locations in the world, Piazza San Marco, there are shops and restaurants of inestimable historical and cultural value, including the historic Gran Caffè Quadri, since 1775, which in 2011 found in the passion of the Alajmo family the impetus to renew itself. Now, every guest can experience the feeling not only of being in the presence of a rich past but to be also in a contemporary place, alive and up-to-datein terms of quality, pleasantness and heath criteria.
From the day of reopening, on Thursday 28 May 2020, the tables in the stall are illuminated by the portable and rechargeable Poldina lamps by Zafferano, allowing guests to enjoy the experience of being in the square even in the evening. The use of Poldina in the dehors of the Gran Caffè Quadri in Venice has a certain value for Zafferano, company that has a special bond with the lagoon city: Federico de Majo, founder and designer, was born there, started his professional path in his family’s glass factory in Murano, then achieving the creation of Zafferano.
The close collaboration between Zafferano and the catering sector started with the brand in 2001 -explains Federico de Majo: “For 20 years we have been working with restaurants and hotels, designing for them objects and tools aimed to simplify their daily work and meanwhile to offer stunning places. Poldina was born from listening to their need of having a lamp that could enlight tables placed in gardens, terraces and wherever there might be no power supply. But there is one more detail: my maternal grandfather was one of the first and most important Venetian merchants to supply restaurants in Venice with raw materials. With this collaboration between Zafferano and Alajmo, I fulfil my dream, both as an entrepreneur and as a Venetian.”
Poldina is a battery-powered, portable and rechargeable LED lamp, which thanks to its high protection degree (IP54) is also suitable for outdoor use. It is part of a large catalogue of wireless lamps, which Zafferano is specialized in. Very useful luminaires for illuminating all spaces outside the locations, without the need for any electrical power supply. At the end of the lockdown, the catering sector had quickly to conform to new needs and directives, to allow a renewed style of contact with the customers. To ensure an adequate distance between the tables, key element to health and safety for staff and diners, many bar and restaurants have been allowed to occupy the public areas outside the location. Thanks to the variety of the range and the clean and essential design, Zafferano portable lamps fit into any style of furniture.
In recent years, “nomadic” lamps have experienced a wide diffusion, supported by the variety of range, the clean and essential design and battery life. At the beginning of summer 2020, some of the most prestigious restaurants in Italy placed them in their dehors: the aforementioned Gran Caffè Quadri, Piazza San Marco in Venice, Danì Maison in Ischia, Ristorante San Domenico in Imola, Casa Maria Luigia in Modena, as well as Cipriani Club 55 and Cipriani Downtown in New York.
