Bam open air design
Artemide participated in the fourth edition of Open Air Design, an initiative of BAMa’s cultural program curated by COIMA Image that last October animated the Biblioteca degli Alberi by creating a sort of museum of design spread among the trees to reflect on the relationship between nature, design and sustainability in an inclusive way and open to all citizens.
DISCOVER_ING THE NATURE, the installation designed by Carolina Gismondi de Bevilacqua has brought to light the values of regeneration, sustainability and beauty that are the basis of the event. The Artemide Red Circle was a space in dialogue with nature, architecture and life that animated the park with the light’s dynamism by creating an alternation of colourful atmospheres.
The transparencies of four peculiar outdoor Discovery luminaires set the scene for the natural and architectural context. Their light welcomed visitors, nourishing man and nature with the proper wavelength. The installation platform offered people a moment of rest and aggregation, nature support on which to grow, recreating a “Natural Theatre” in which the light thrilled with the rhythm of its sets, opening the space to relationships with the surrounding environment.
The installation was a tribute to Ernesto Gismondi, founder of Artemide, who designed Discovery – a patented lighting technology – a perfect synthesis of the company’s values, innovative research and know-how. A thin aluminium profile is home to an LED strip that inepts light into a transparent PMMA surface with a pattern of micro-engravings distributed to achieve maximum efficiency and uniformity. These, therefore, generate precise light extraction, an enveloping and constant effect on both sides for perfect visual comfort. Discovery is a solution that brings good light everywhere, is sustainable and ideal for correct perception, and supports everyone’s psychological, physiological and health well-being.
Artemide promotes innovative and sustainable design to develop lighting solutions capable of improving the quality of life in the spaces that future generations will inhabit. Artemide’s light respectfully inserts itself into nature, nourishing it. Outdoor light can accompany our paths and rhythms, help us read the surrounding landscape in movement, stage the space by framing perspectives and create moments of pause, sharing and meeting, as in the installation created for BAM Open Air Design.
For more than 60 years, founded by Ernesto Gismondi, Artemide has been designing and producing light with an approach to design guided by ethical vision, scientific research, technè and know-how measured by the values of environmental and social sustainability.
