Angelo Cappellini and the Opera Contemporary brand at Milan Design Week

9 October 2024

Angelo Cappellini and the Opera Contemporary brand showcase their collections during Milan Design Week at a prime location in the city centre, hosted at the renowned restaurant “il Salumaio di Montenapoleone” situated in the historic Bagatti Valsecchi palace dating back to the late 19th century. The exhibition integrates the latest innovative designs of 2024 with iconic masterpieces from historical collections.

Cappellini brings classicism to life with a dining table in the style of Louis XVI characterized by a top crafted using high woodworking techniques and a solid beech wood structure. The table’s legs are adorned with hand-carved floral decorations in hazelnut colour and antique gold leaf details. The top features a border in white ash burl, maple fillet, and blonde walnut slabs arranged in a sunburst pattern that converge at the centre in the inlaid Angelo Cappellini logo. The table finishes highlight the wood grain with a transparent polish that showcases the material’s natural beauty.

The dining table is surrounded by chairs and head chairs in the Louis XVI style, with oval backs upholstered in cream-colored fabric and legs in hazelnut with antiqued gold leaf details, also hand-carved. After that, the freestanding mirror in the style of Louis XVI enriches the most sought-after bedrooms with its elegant frame finishes in antique gold leaf with a white patina. Inside, the mirror is divided into individually crafted sections with bevelled edges that create an additional frame. Supporting it is a metal structure with a brushed brass finish that serves as a stand and has a dual function as a coat rack and bag holder.

The Astra armchair is a seat composed of two curved wooden slabs placed one above the other, made of national walnut with a dark finish. The armrests of the armchair are made of metal with a brushed brass finish, while the seat upholstery is in black woven fabric with gold patterns and a contrasting gold cord. Astra is designed for various spaces such as living areas and bedroom. A coffee table in brushed metal with a distinctive cylindrical shape is presented in its dual version. The first version features a top made of onyx marble, which is naturally transparent, underneath which an LED light is positioned. The second proposal consists of a top inlaid with tropical motifs.

Opera Contemporary, instead, presented the Edith Table, a 2024 addition. It is a dining table which top is crafted with a combination of materials and textures. The surface of the top, in a gray ash slab, is divided into four sections by golden metal rods that delineate and alternate the sense from horizontal to vertical. The 2 cm high edge of the top is made of dark oak slab, matching the legs’ tone, and where it is interrupted by metal, it follows the top slab’s pattern. The legs are made of solid wenge-finish ash wood, characterized by a grooved texture – reminiscent of Opera Contemporary’s iconic Dimitri collection – and golden metal tips. Accompanying the dining table, the 2024 innovations are the Estelle chairs, whose legs are made of solid ash wood with gold metal tips, while the seat portion is crafted with a cream-colored fabric with a contrasting black edge that runs along the border, rising up to the curved backrest.

To furnish the living areas of luxury residences and villas, Opera Contemporary’s collection introduces the Bruce upholstery line, featuring modern two or three-seater sofas and armchairs with generous proportions that ensure comfort and sophistication to the spaces. The Bruce pieces are crafted with a solid ash frame that ends into tapered legs with golden brass tips; the soft back and arm cushions embrace the comfortable seat, all upholstered in cream bouclé fabric.

The coffee table from the Lance family has been presented in a rectangular shape in Canaletto walnut essence, with day compartments arranged to the left of each long side, creating a juxtaposition. The base is brushed brass, while the tray top has an ivory leather bottom, slightly recessed compared to the surface. The Gabriel small table, already part of the Opera Contemporary collection, has a new brushed copper finish and a round Ariston marble top, which adds to the fine marbles it has always been made with. Raoul is a metal side table with a back-painted glass top, presented at the Milan Design Week 2024 in the new periwinkle colour, which joins the already available versions in Levanto Red marble, Grey Carnico, Magic Brown, Bronze, Gold Calacatta, and Kenya Black.
