Record figures with almost 67,000 spectators of the event that renews the appointment to 2023
A heterogeneous and transversal public, high artistic quality with the presence of the most important international light artists, enhancement and promotion of the territory: these are the winning keys of the Kernel model which has always had an open and dynamic gaze on Italy and its cities. “We are proud of the great success achieved this year by the event in terms of spectators, we give you an appointment for the 2023 edition” declares Marcello Arosio, Art Director of the most important Italian new media light art festival.
Almost 67,000 spectators for the most important Italian new media light art festival and almost 2,000 themed posts published on Instagram. Record numbers for the 11th year of the Kernel Festival which, for 10 days, illuminated Monza and its architectural, artistic and cultural heritage thanks to 3D mapping audiovisual shows by renowned international and Italian light artists, to the illuminated sculptures created by the students of the Nanni Valentini, historic art high school in the area, to the synchronized light installation with the soundscape and to the participatory one created by more than 1000 children from the nursery and elementary schools of Brianza area. A real immersive journey into the art of light which, from the façade and the splendid internal courtyards of the Villa Reale, accompanied the spectators to the heart of the city, in Piazza Roma, a stone’s throw from the Arengario, passing through the historic art school and the Royal Groves.
A spectacular experience, free and accessible to all, which involved a transversal audience: from very young children to elderly people up to couples and families with children, all won over by the high artistic quality of the event. The Kernel Festival, an event that has always been dynamic with an open gaze on Italy and its cities in its DNA, is however also a place and time for learning, for growing as individuals and communities thanks to public meetings, dialogues open with artists and professionals, workshops and participatory projects that help the local community to acquire awareness of the value of light and art in the public space and to enhance and promote their territory through innovative territorial marketing techniques.
“We are very happy with the important success and response in terms of audience, despite a few days of adverse weather, in this edition of the Kernel Festival which took place in Monza, demonstrating the strength of our platform, open to all types of audience and functional not only to enhance the most precious places of the protagonist cities with light and sound, re-evaluating even the most neglected ones, but above all to convey new artistic proposals linked to contemporary technologies and emerging artistic languages – says Marcello Arosio, art director of the Kernel Festival – One of the characteristic aspects of the event that I like to underline is the direct involvement of the youngest in the production of some of the festival’s contents.
In fact, we believe it is important to make local nursery, primary and secondary school pupils as protagonists in the first person as well as young emerging artists at a local, national and international level, offering them the opportunity to experiment and increase their relationship with light and the urban space of cities. The art of light will continue to be the protagonist in Italy and in Europe and as promoters and organizers of the Kernel we already invite you to the 2023 edition, which will, as always, be full of innovative and cutting-edge solutions and proposals“.
