Dichroic filters for Airfield Ground Lighting and Railway Signalling

28 January 2022

For over 20 years, ODL has been designing and manufacturing light filters for civil airports and heliports complying with ICAO and FAA regulations, as well as for railway lighting systems

ODL dichroic filters offer efficient solutions to illuminate airports and heliports, including take-off and landing runways, taxiways and approach surfaces. For railway signalling, they are instead suitable for the lighting of tracks, platforms and passenger areas. The glass filters used in airport and rail lighting must meet strict colour and transmission standards. Depending on the specifications of the lighting system, ODL solutions can be customized to have specific photometric characteristics offering total reliability, maximum safety and full compliance with system requirements and regulations.

Filters Stands-Out

  • Colorimetric compliance with system requirements and regulations, such as ICAO and FAA
  • Extreme stability in harsh environmental conditions and to changing operating temperatures
  • Excellent chromatic stability over time: shift and fading-free colours
  • Excellent mechanical resistance to abrasion
  • Compatible with both traditional halogen fittings and LED light sources
  • Compatible with inset and elevated fixtures

Filters Categories

  • Dichroic Colour Filters, granting colour conformity and photometric specifics
  • Cold Light Mirror Reflectors and Antireflection Coatings, to maximize the lighting system efficiency
  • UV Filters to protect Vision Systems from dazzling or saturating
  • IR Filters to protect Vision Systems from interfering IR rays
  • Others available upon request

As mentioned, they are ideal for use in the Airport lighting of Heliports for Vision Systems, Railway and Metro lighting. Dichroic treatments designed and manufactured by ODL consist of interference multilayer deposits of dielectric oxides, deposited through Physical Vapor Deposition (“PVD”) processes, by Evaporation and Sputtering technology.
